DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH
To design, produce and style a complete costume look for the opening and finale performance item of Chingay Parade 2021.
Diamonds in the rough is a metaphor for the clearly unpolished state of the diamond gemstones,especially those that have the potential to be high quality jewels,but only known after polishing.
It represents how youths are all like diamonds in the rough. How we all have hidden qualities that we might still be unsure of.However with proper polishing,support and hardwork,we and the people around us would then realise the true beauty and the exceptional qualities/talent/potential one has.
CONCEPT
I decided to go with the military/utility theme as I feel that it has a very powerful attitude and style.Screams energy and is also trendy/fashionable at the same time. Really like diamonds in the rough,it is like telling a story of how the performers are emerging and discovering their love and potential for what they do.

Since I can conclude that the dance movements for Chingay 2021 would be fast,the materials used for the garment need to be comfortable,durable and allows easy movement.
TECHNICAL SWATCHES
For the fabrics manipulation,I did tie-dying,ruffles,pleats,ruching and also sewed on reflective strips.
